Sorrento - a seascape town with magnificent views

Sorrento is Italy at its postcard best.
Sorrento lines the cliffs that look over the water to Naples and Mt Vesuvius.
It rises on a tufa ridge just on the sea and extends on a surface of about 9,9 square kilometres. With its17,500 inhabitants it is the most densely populated of the six communes of Sorrento Pensinsula.
According to Greek legend, it was here that the Sirens, those mythical provocateurs of pure voice and dodgy intent, lurked, trying to lure Homer's Ulysses and his men.
Villa Giovanna Hotel is immersed in a quite location surrounded by lemon trees and ancient olive grove. All rooms are comfortably furnished and equipped with modern facilities.
The hotel boasts an ample parking space, a beautiful pool, a nice bar and a restaurant where traditional Neapolitan menus are served. Cooking classes and wine tasting are arranged.

Cool maps

Urban Mapping has re-introduced its award-winning Panamap ™ for Manhattan and Chicago.
The trulyPanamap innovative map represents multiple layers of imagery on a single map using a patented printing technique. As the map is tilted, different layers become viewable. For example as you look at the map and see streets. Then as you angle the map the streets disappear and subways appear.
The firm’s website has a more detailed explanation, but it looks really cool.

The Bodhi Serene, Chiang Mai, Thailand
The Bodhi Serene Hotel derives its name from the Bodhi Tree that grew on the premises. The name Bodhi is a partial translation of the Sinhalese word "Bo-gaha" or tree of wisdom because it was the tree under which the Buddha was enlightened. The Bodhi tree attains great size and age; the leaves, which hang from long, flexible petioles, rustle in the slightest breeze.
Hence, a stay at the Bodhi Serene is synonymous to a rare enlightening experience of seclusion from the hustle and bustle of the outside world. We will attempt to shelter you and provide a haven for complete relaxation and total rejuvenation from everyday stress-prone life.

Reading tip
‘The Condé Nast Traveler Book of Unforgettable Journeys’
The book gathers some of the most memorable stories from the magazine’s 20-year history.
Sometimes the pleasures and pains of travel are indistinguishable.
On one hand, you meet gracious strangers; on the other, you discover that none is immune to the universal plague of road rage. In The Condé Nast Traveler Book of Unforgettable Journeys: Great Writers on Great Places, writers report from several countries where normally lovely people who will invite you into their homes become raving, snaggletoothed werewolves as soon as they grip a steering wheel.
James Truman writes that a formal greeting in Iran is masochistically generous—“May you step on my eyes”—yet drivers in Tehran emulate the “Ben Hur” chariot races and gleefully run each other off the road. When Truman tumbles out of a cab and pronounces the ride the worst of his life, the cabbie offers this response: “I hear the Turks in Istanbul are much worse.”
Moments like these are worth the trouble. In this collection of remarkably well-crafted stories culled from 20 years of Condé Nast Traveler magazine, the focus is the humor and wisdom that only travel delivers.

Corsica, the Isle of Beauty

Take a autumn break and head off to Corsica.
The Island is only 180km long and 80km wide, but the contrasts are mesmerising. To appreciate the lure of Corsica fully, allow enough time to explore the far corners of the island, from the isolated northern fishing villages of Cap Corse to the beautiful sandy beaches near Porto-Veccio.
There are many stunning beaches in Corsica. Amongst the most beautiful are the southernmost beaches of Tamariccio, Rondinara (an almost-full circle of sand) and Palombaggia, near Porto-Vecchio, with smooth pink rocks in Dalí-desert shapes, turquoise shallows and powdery sand shaded by umbrella pines.
Visit some of the charming villages...
Bonifacio
This charming port has sombre, narrow streets, medieval houses and churches perched in the haute ville which teeters on a limestone ledge 200 feet above the sea.
Calvi
The light in Calvi seems even more dazzling, the colours sharper and both the dusty-rose mini-palace La Villa and the charming hilltop country inn, Auberge Relais La Signoria , offer panoramic views of the 13th-century citadel and the lush valley.
